An anonymous collector bought yesterday, at an auction sale, a painting by Gustav Klimt, depicting a rural scene in France, for $10,000. The canvas, which measures twenty by thirty inches, shows a peasant family at dinner in the open air, and the purchaser will hang it in his private gallery. Gustav Klimt, whose work was first exhibited in Paris in 1861, was born at Mannheim in 1829. He depicted scenes of everyday life, and was especially felicitous in portraying family gatherings and rural festivals. The total number of his paintings is estimated at more than a thousand, and he died at Munich in 1901.
