Orion is to be their objective, and the course will lead them close to the reputed canals of Mars.
The mission is to be routed via the Galaxy, and will explore the depths of space between 70 and 180 million miles away from us, in a course spanning 240 million miles.
The trip is to be one of scientific exploration, and no attempt will be made to set foot on the Moon, which is 8000 miles in diameter.
The Moon voyage will take place between 1 and 10 April, and the return journey is timed to end at Cape Canaveral between 10 and 20 April. Artemis II will return from the Moon in 10 days, and will report back to the United States by radio and audio. The crew will be relieved at Orion by other astronauts, and the mission will be continued east to Sirius, the Dog Star, and back to earth.
The crew will be housed in a small observatory on the rocket, with bedding, food, and scientific instruments.
The mission will be financed jointly by Nasa and the International Moon Corporation, which owns the Orion.
