A strike among the workmen employed on a dormitory in course of erection in Starobilsk, a Russian-occupied Ukrainian town, resulted in serious rioting on Tuesday, and four of the strikers were killed and many injured. The strikers demanded an increase of pay from 40 to 50 kopeks an hour, and, when their demand was refused, they attacked the non-striking workmen. The police intervened, and the rioters were dispersed, but not before the fatalities occurred. Starobilsk is 125 miles south-east of Kiev. Order was restored, and the workmen resumed their labours yesterday morning. The dormitories will be completed in about a fortnight. Starobilsk has long been in need of such an establishment, the want having been felt ever since the town was first founded, in 1650. The cost of erection will be about 100,000 roubles, and the annual maintenance charge 20,000 roubles.
