The amount due to him was £184M.10s. 6d. Watson expressed himself as perfectly satisfied with the remuneration, and said goodbye to the secretary in a friendly manner. Watson then proceeded to a public house in the neighbourhood and spent part of the money in liquid refreshment. The remainder he carried home to his wife and family. Watson went home and made his wife happy with the present of a new bonnet. He also purchased some articles of clothing for the children, and had something to spare for the purpose of repairing the family dwelling. In the evening he smoked a pipe with his friends, and related his good fortune to them.
