Modern headline: Rare species found in Scotland's declining rainforest

rare lichens and mosses inhabit are not so numerous as to be ignored, and yet are sufficiently abundant to be representative.

They are found in sheltered situations, and generally in compact groups or colonies, from sea level to 1,500 feet above.

Rare lichens grow on rocks, trees, and walls, and on the ground, and may be detected in the grey, green, or yellow of their species.

Mosses grow on the ground, and are usually green. Rare species found in Scotland's rainforest extend from grey to yellow, and from green to brown, and are identified as species of Parmelia and Usnea, growing on walls, and species of Polytrichum and Hypnum, growing on the ground.

They occur from sea level to 1,500 feet above, and are discovered as far inland as the interior of Perthshire, and as far north as Aberdeenshire.

They extend from the Channel to the Moray Firth, and are found from Argyll to Fife.
