Don’t swim at 12 of 14 river bathing sites was the warning broadcast to the public this morning. The announcement, which applies to all rivers from the Thames to the Tay, is the result of a decision by the Ministry of Health, and is made in view of the possibility of infection from sewage which is being emptied into the streams in question. Don’t swim in the Thames between Richmond and Oxford; in the Ouse between York and Ely; in the Trent between Burton and Gainsborough; in the Severn between Gloucester and Worcester; in the Shannon between Limerick and Killaloe; in the Forth between Stirling and Alloa; in the Clyde between Glasgow and Dumbarton; in the Tweed between Kelso and Coldstream; in the Shannon between Portumna and Shannon Bridge; in the Suir between Thora and Clonmel; and in the Lee between Cork and the sea.
Original dispatch: 'Don't swim' at 12 of 14 river bathing sites, as more locations announced
