Nico Hoerner, a cub on the Chicago Cubs, made an incredible throw in yesterday’s game against Cincinnati. The play, which came in the ninth inning, when the score was tied, 3-3, brought about Chicago’s 4-to-3 victory, and established young Hoerner as one of the greatest finds of the season. The Cubs were leading, 3 to 2, in the final frame, when the Reds batted round and tallied twice. With two out and men on second and third, the batter drove a hard liner straight at Hoerner. The cub fielded the ball cleanly, and stepped back to make the put-out at second. But, instead of throwing to the base, he shot the sphere straight between his legs at the waiting runner at third. The ball was low and inside, and the third-sacker speared it, turning a complete somersault as he did so. But he held on, and the side was out. The astonished spectators rose to cheer the amazed Hoerner, and he was carried off the field on the shoulders of admirers.
