An express train, running from Quetta to Nasratabad in Pakistan’s Balochistan, was wrecked early yesterday morning near Makduran, some 150 miles from its destination. The disaster occurred at 5.30 a.m., and at least 24 persons lost their lives. The train, which was composed of nine coaches and a brake van, left Quetta at 10.30 p.m. on Tuesday, and was due to arrive at Nasratabad at 6 o’clock yesterday morning. The Permanent Way Inspector, who was a passenger in the brake van, was among the killed. Medical aid was immediately summoned from Makduran, and the injured were conveyed thither. The cause of the accident has not yet been officially ascertained, but it is believed to have been due to a landslide. Traffic was interrupted for some hours, and the line was not cleared until late last evening. — Reuter.
